Biography

"Don't give up until the miracle happens" Even when the miracle doesn't seem like a miracle. As Terence W. Hutton admits "sometimes, being an artist is a curse and I wish I could be a banker, but it is what I have to do, it is my passion."

Born in London in 1960, Terence discovered he had a natural talent for art at an early age but when he was ten years old, his father slapped boxing gloves on Terence's hands, saying that art was for sissies. It wasn't until twenty years that he finally picked up a brush and began to honor his innate artistic talent.

Arriving in the United States eighteen years ago, Terence stayed in New York for a year before moving to Miami and then finally to San Diego and Southern California in 1988, where he worked in restaurants, hotels and bars to support himself. Not sure of his direction, he decided to go back to school, to do something he enjoyed. So, Terence began taking fine arts classes at San Diego City College. There, he was influenced by his teacher Wayne Hulgin, and together with another artist, Stephen Curry, the three of them rented a studio loft where they could paint. Out of work and struggling, Terence lived at the studio and watched the two accomplished artists, learning from them and absorbing technique. Soon, he fell in love with oil painting, and began developing his own realistic and highly accomplished style.

People began noticing Terence in the fine arts field, leading to solo exhibitions of his work at David's Gallery and Cafe LuLu in San Diego and as a participant in group exhibits at the Faultline Theatre/ Gallery, Park Blvd. Artworks Gallery and Debra Owen's Gallery. Terence traveled to Italy in the summer of 2001 to study at the Lorenzo de Medici School of Art. Upon his return, Terence felt smothered by the conservative environment of San Diego and six months ago he moved to Los Angeles with his motto firmly in place, he will not give up until the miracle happens.
